This qualification is aimed at learners who need to know how to decontaminate instruments in either healthcare settings or  dental settings.
The Level 3 Certificate in Decontaminating Medical Devices is a short course upskilling candidates to decontaminate devices in general healthcare settings, and would be appropriate for healthcare support staff, as well as others such as Tattoo studio staff or even Podiatrists
The Certificate in Dental Decontamination is for Dental Nurses, Dental Technicians and Dental Assistants.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

In studying these courses, you'll cover things like: + Prepare, load and operate decontamination equipment+ Understand how to monitor the decontamination process+ Validation and maintenance of instruments and equipment+ Principles of infection control in the dental environment.

You will learn on the job in the work environment. Assessment will also take place in the workplace and will involve the creation of a portfolio to evidence most of the units. One of the dental decontamination units is assessed via our online platform, e-volve. For 3130-03 there are 2 assignment units.

Achieving the qualification may enable learners to progress into employment, pursue career opportunities in decontamination or engage with further professional development.

Learners who achieve the 3130-03 Level 3 Certificate in Decontaminating Medical Devices may progress to study a wide range of health care qualifications such as the 4223 Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare.

Learners who achieve the 3130-31 Level 3 Certificate in Dental Decontamination may progress to study qualifications such as the Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified assessors - you can train internal members of staff or recruit specially. You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

No previous experience or qualifications are required other than to be working in an appropriate setting.
Centres approved to deliver 4223-17 can apply for approval for 3130-03 via the fast track form. Centres approved to deliver 4234-31 can apply for approval for 3130-31 via the fast track form.

These qualifications will suit you if you are looking to upskill and learn how to decontaminate instruments, and understand the process including validating instruments and the implementation of infection control procedures.
