The Diploma in Cervical Cytology is a recognised qualification showing your ability as an NHS worker undertaking primary cervical screening. You'll develop your knowledge of cervical screening, including the ability to identify all types of cells found in cervical samples, accurately defining negative and inadequate samples.
The Diploma in Cervical Cytology is for people currently undertaking primary screening in cervical cytology in the NHS.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

The Diploma in Cervical Cytology covers a wide variety of areas associated with cytology, including:

  • how UK cervical screening programmes are organised
  • cell structures, squamous metaplasia and lesions
  • understanding microscopy.

For the Diploma in Cervical Cytology you will learn with your training provider and be assessed through coursework and practical and written tasks. The written tasks look at a wide range of topics relevant to cervical screening.

You are currently involved in primary cervical screening in the NHS and want to increase your detailed knowledge of cervical cytology and demonstrate your ability to identify cervical samples accurately.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

This qualification can lead to a job as a Biomedical Scientist.

This qualification also contributes to the related Level 2 NVQ in Health.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver a QVC, assignments are to be locally marked when completed on demand. All assessment tasks will be relevant to workplace situations.

To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Level 3

This level will suit you if you are currently involved in primary cervical screening in the NHS. You want to increase your detailed knowledge of cervical cytology and demonstrate your ability to identify cervical samples accurately.

You complete 12 core units from a range that includes:

  • Principles and organisation of the UK cervical screening programmes
  • Principles and practice of microscopy
  • Scanning devices and molecular techniques in cervical disease.
