The Level 3 Diploma in Healthcare Support is a competence based qualification which has been developed with Skills for Health and healthcare employers.

This qualification is a mandatory component of the Senior Healthcare support Worker apprenticeship standard in England.

The qualification is aimed at senior healthcare support workers in a range of healthcare settings. The qualification can be used both within and outside of an apprenticeship standard.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?
Designed to support the on programme element of the Senior Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship standard in England, the qualification covers the knowledge and skills required to work in a senior healthcare role within a health setting. The qualification contains units which are competence based and several knowledge based units.
What Careers Can This Lead To?

The qualification provides a structured programme of learning and assessment to support learners to demonstrate competence in a senior healthcare support worker role.

Learners can progress to an apprenticeship at level 5, for example the Assistant Practitioner in Healthcare or the Nursing Associate provided they are in a suitable job role.

There may be opportunities to progress to Registered Nurse apprenticeship or a pre-registration degree programme providing the Higher Education Institution/University entry requirements are met.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

The qualification is structured in a way which means that all learners will have to complete a group of mandatory units, the content of which is required across any senior healthcare support role. In addition there is a wide range of optional units to support areas of specialism, such as:

  • Adult Nursing Support
  • Children and Young People
  • Maternity Support
  • Mental Health Support
  • Theatre Support
  • Allied Health Profession and Therapy Support

The qualification requires candidates to achieve 65 credits. 45 from the mandatory group and a minimum of 20 credits from the optional group. A minimum of 37 credits must be at level 3 or above.
