The Award in Food Safety in Catering/Supervising Food Safety in Catering can help you meet the minimum requirements laid down by the EU (European Union) to work within a food environment.

The Award in Healthier Food and Special Diets will enable the learner to understand food restrictions required by many differing individuals, from a dietary need to a religious need.
The Food Safety in Catering qualifications are suitable for anybody, whether in a supervisory position or those working directly with food. For the supervisory qualification you'll have some experience in a full or part time position within the hospitality sector and be looking to take on more responsibility for food safety at work.

The Healthier Food and Special Diets qualification is aimed at those chefs/learners who want to further their development and understand those with special dietary or religious needs.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You'll cover things like:

  • food safety legislation
  • personal hygiene
  • keeping work areas clean and tidy
  • identifying and resolving food safety issues.
  • catering practices
  • essential nutrients
  • nutritional guidelines

This qualification gives you greater flexibility when studying and allows you to transfer credits across qualifications. You will be awarded credits for each course of study you complete.

Which level is right for me?

Level 2
You already work in a job - probably in a role where you work under supervision, or looking to obtain a role within the catering field. You want to increase your food safety and/or nutritional skills and take on more responsibility.

Level 3
You've worked in the catering industry for some time - probably in a role where you have responsibility. You want to develop your skills further and gain a formal qualification, perhaps to move into a management role.

These qualifications can help you progress in a number of jobs and sectors including:

  • Bar person/manager
  • Catering/restaurant manager
  • Chef
  • Fast food service assistant.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified assessors - you can train internal members of staff or recruit specially.

Anyone can take this qualification., but you will need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Centres currently offering the Level 2 Award in Food Safety for Catering (7100-62) can gain fast track approval to offer Level 2 Award in Food Safety in Catering (7150-92).

Centres currently offering the Level 2 Award in Healthier Food and Special Diet (7100-72) will be provided automatic approval to offer the Level 2 Award in Healthier Food and Special Diets (7150-72).
