The Diploma in Traffic Management will develop the traffic monitoring and management skills and knowledge you need in the traffic control room or on the road.
The qualification has been developed for traffic officers and traffic control room staff.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You can choose from a range of optional units to meet the needs of your current role in traffic management or your chosen career path. These include:

  • Manage urban traffic by controlling traffic signals
  • Monitor the road network using CCTV systems and equipment
  • Establish and address requirements of callers on the road network
  • Liaise with the media regarding operational traffic management
  • Escort Vehicles to a place of safety on the road network.

You will learn on the job in the work environment.

Assessment will also take place in the workplace and will include a portfolio of evidence to meet the criteria of the qualification.

Level 3
You are already working in on-road traffic management or traffic control room role, and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring work meets the required standard.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To offer the Diploma in Traffic Management you need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment. You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

You will need to be employed in a traffic management or traffic control centre role.

Level 3

You are already working in traffic management and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring work meets the required standard.

There are two qualifications available:

  • Diploma in traffic management (control room)
  • Diploma in traffic management (on-road)

You will need to complete six mandatory units and can choose your optional units from a wide range of topics including:

  • Respond to traffic management incidents - bronze command
  • Remove vehicles and obstructions from the road network
  • Preparing for the coaching role
  • Control tunnel systems and equipment on the road network
  • Manage traffic on inter urban roads using traffic management technology.
