General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You can choose the units that develop and demonstrate the specialist knowledge and skills you have developed, including:

  • Growing trees, fruit, vegetables and flowers
  • Organic gardening
  • Garden design
  • Water features
  • Rock areas
  • Plant propagation.

You will learn in the classroom, with access to suitable environments and equipment, probably on a part-time course. You will complete externally assessed assignments.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Centres currently offering the NPTC Level 2 National Certificate in Gardening (0062-01, -02) can apply for fast-track approval.

Level 2

This level is ideal if you have some gardening knowledge and skills, from personal or professional experience. You may want to expand your knowledge or take it to a higher level - perhaps to progress in your career or learning.

This qualification comprises a wide range of units, all of which are optional. Examples of units include:

  • Understand the basic principles of plant science
  • Establish and maintain plants outdoors
  • Contribute to fruit production by organic methods
  • Introduction to plant selection
  • Understand the principles of organic horticulture
  • Participate in propagation techniques.
