These qualifications help to improve standards of practice for those working in training and development. They include a range of 'mini qualifications' to boost special skills and knowledge. This qualification is part of the Learning and Development apprenticeship framework.

These qualifications are for people working in, or looking to enter roles in learning and development. They have been developed to replace the Learning and Development NVQs.

This qualifications are available to anyone working in accredited learning, non-accredited learning (where people may train and assess skills but do not assess for a qualification) and qualifications on the National Qualification Framework (NQF).

The City & Guilds Practical Guide to Quality Assurance

The book is an ideal resource for anyone involved in quality assurance in learning. Whether you are a tutor, assessor, TAQA candidate, IQA or EQA you will benefit from the practical real-life examples and case studies, along with the comprehensive overview and explanation of quality assurance.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You can choose the qualification that demonstrates the specialist knowledge and skills you have developed, such as:

  • Mentoring
  • Coaching
  • Assessing learning
  • Facilitating and managing learning.

You will learn on the job in a work environment or in workshops.

Assessment methods include assignment, professional discussion, observation, work products and Q&A.

Which level is right for me?

Level 3
You are working in training and development and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of ensuring work meets the required standard.

Level 4
You are working at a senior or managerial level in learning and development and have a great deal of professional experience.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

These qualifications can help you to progress in a wide range of learning and development roles, including:

  • Trainer
  • Tutor
  • Assessor
  • Internal quality assurer
  • Learning and development manager
  • Learning and development consultant.

Learners can also go on to take one of City & Guilds' suite of Assessment and Internal Quality Assurance qualifications.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need highly skilled learning and development practitioners.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Learners will need to be in a position to demonstrate their competence for a number of the units. There are no eligibility requirements for knowledge-only units.

Level 3

Level 3 is ideal if you are working in training and development and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of ensuring work meets the required standard.

There are three pathways available at Level 3:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Learning and Development. This is a single-unit award.
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Facilitating Learning and Development. This comprises one mandatory and one optional unit.
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Learning and Development. This comprises three mandatory units and a range of optional units.

  • City & Guilds Level 4 Diploma in Learning and Development. This comprises two mandatory units and a range of optional units.
