These knowledge-based qualifications cover the specialist knowledge that professional bus and coach drivers need to provide safe, efficient service and excellent customer care.
This qualification has been developed for those working in road passenger transport as bus or coach drivers and for those completing a Passenger Carrying Vehicle Driving (Bus & Coach) Apprenticeship.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You can choose the qualification that demonstrates the specialist knowledge and skills you have developed, such as:

  • safe bus and coach operations
  • employment rights and responsibilities
  • customer care.

You will learn in the classroom and/or in the workplace.

Assessment will be via multiple-choice tests. One of the units for the apprenticeship will require a portfolio of evidence.

You are working, looking to work or undertaking an apprenticeship in road passenger transport as a bus or coach driver. You have some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Centres currently offering the 4015-02 Level 2 NVQ in Passenger Carrying Vehicle Driving (Bus & Coach) have automatic approval to offer this award.

There are no formal eligibility requirements for this qualification. Please note, however, that if this qualification is being taken as part of an apprenticeship, you will need to have a driving licence, although it would be expected that a licence would be obtained during the apprenticeship.

Level 2

Level 2 will suit you if you are working, looking to work or undertaking an apprenticeship in road passenger transport as a bus or coach driver. You have some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised.

The qualification comprises three mandatory units:

  • Customer Service for Bus or Coach
  • Safe Bus or Coach Services
  • Bus or Coach Operations.

Learners who are taking an apprenticeship will also be required to take one optional unit:

  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities in the Passenger Transport Sector.
