This qualification is part of the Driving Goods Vehicles apprenticeship framework.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You can choose the pathway that demonstrates your skills as a courier or delivery driver, including:

  • Cycle (Level 2 only)
  • Motorcycle
  • Van
  • Rigid or articulated lorry.

You will learn at a City & Guilds centre and you must also have access to an appropriate vehicle.

You will be assessed by portfolio of evidence for each unit.

Which level is right for me?

Level 2
You are working as a courier or delivery driver and/or have some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised.

Level 3
Ideal for those with experience in driving duties, making deliveries and collections and looking to progress into supervision, team-leading and management.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

These qualifications can help you to work effectively as a courier, delivery driver, light goods and LGV driver.

Learners could also go on to take these related qualifications:

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Traffic Office (3438)
  • Level 3 Certificate in Logistics Operations (3439).

 

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards including appropriate vehicles.

All learners must be employed in a role which involves specialised plant and machinery operations.

Learners should be aged over 16 and hold an appropriate driving licence.

Level 2

Level 2 will suit you if you are working as a courier or delivery driver or have some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised.

There are four qualifications available at Level 2:

  • Certificate in Driving Goods Vehicles (Motor Cycle/Pedal Cycle) 4012-20
  • Certificate in Driving Goods Vehicles (Van) 4012-21
  • Certificate in Driving Goods Vehicles (Rigid Vehicle) 4012-22
  • Certificate in Driving Goods Vehicles (Articulated or Draw Bar Vehicle) 4012-23.

Level 3 Transporting Freight by Road qualifications are ideal for those with experience in driving duties, making deliveries and collections and who are looking enhance their professional skills and competence. 

There are three qualifications available at Level 3:

  • Diploma in Transporting Freight by Road (Articulated or Draw Bar Vehicle) 4012-40
  • Diploma in Transporting Freight by Road (Rigid Vehicle) 4012-41
  • Diploma in Transporting Freight by Road (Van) 4012-42

Level 3 Driving Goods Vehicles qualifications are for those looking to progress further in their professional driving careers into supervision, team-leading and management.

There are three qualifications available at Level 3:
