What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

While completing this qualification, you'll cover things like:

  • How the security industry operates in your country
  • Your country's security legislation, codes of practice and guidelines
  • Day-to-day security work such as access control and patrolling
  • How to deal with emergencies
  • How to communicate with customers and colleagues.

For international qualifications, how you learn and are assessed depends on where you obtain your qualification. In general, you'll complete four assignments, which include practical tasks and short answer tests.

Ideal if you want to gain a basic qualification in security. You may be working in security already, or looking for your first job as a security guard.

The Award for Security Personnel could help you get a job as a security guard or move forward in your current job.

After taking this qualification, you could also move on to:

  • Licence to Practise in the Private Security Industry (UK)
  • Level 2 Certificate in Conflict Management
  • Level 2 NVQ in Providing Security Services
  • Level 3 Award in Security Operations.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver the qualification, you must have tutors and assessors who have experience working in the security industry and have a relevant qualification in training and assessing.

You must make sure your learners can access realistic simulated work environments or work placements.

You assess learners on four assignments, which include practical tasks and short answer tests. These assignments are set by City & Guilds and marked by staff within the centre using City & Guilds' marking guidance.

Anyone can take this qualification, but you must make sure all your learners can access the resources they need to complete it.
