Organised outdoor activities are a great way to enjoy the outdoors and develop a range of important life skills. These qualifications have been developed for those wishing to work, or to progress in their career, in organising activities - with specific units for young people entering the industry.
This qualification is aimed at anyone working, or looking to work, in organising outdoor activities.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You'll cover things like:

  • Organising activity
  • Health and safety
  • Customer care
  • Responding to emergencies.

You will learn on the job in the work environment. Assessment methods are still being developed.

Level 2
You are working, or looking to work, in outdoor activity leadership and have some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

These qualifications can help you to progress in a wide range of roles, including:

  • Outdoor centre assistant
  • Group leader
  • Support worker
  • Activity instructor
  • Assistant activity leader
  • Outdoor activities instructor.

Learners can also choose to go on to take the following related qualifications:

  • City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Activity Leadership (4965-02)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Award, Certificate and Diploma in Increasing Participation in Sport and Active Leisure in Community Settings (4863-36)
  • City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate and/or NVQ Diploma in Leisure Management (4850-03/13).

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Centres currently offering the City & Guilds Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Activity Leadership (4965-02) can gain fast-track approval.
