This qualification is ideal for those working or moving into supervisory or managerial roles in public sector or private leisure centres, or completing the Advanced Apprenticeship in Leisure Management.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

The qualifications cover industry-specific and supervisory and managerial knowledge and skills, such as:

  • Leading a team
  • Industry-specific health and safety legislation
  • Planning, organising and evaluating active leisure services
  • Supervising the maintenance of equipment and facilities in active leisure
  • Addressing performance problems in your team.

You will learn in the classroom and/or on the job in the work environment.

Assessment methods include portfolio of evidence, coursework, e-assessment, multiple-choice examination, oral examination, practical demonstration and practical and written examination.

Level 3
You are working in the leisure industry and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring work meets the required standard.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

Successful completion of the qualification can lead to a job as a Supervisor or Duty Manager in a leisure management organisation.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified assessors - you can train internal members of staff or recruit specially.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Anyone can take this qualification.

Level 3

Level 3 is ideal if you are working in the leisure industry and have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring work meets the required standard.

There are two sizes of qualification at this level:

  • Level 3 Certificate In Leisure Management. 
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Leisure Management.

These qualifications comprise mandatory and optional units, depending on the pathway chosen, including:

  • Understanding how to lead a team in active leisure
  • Understanding how to manage health, safety and welfare in active leisure
  • Understanding employment rights and responsibilities
  • Understanding financial procedures in active leisure
  • Understanding how to supervise facility maintenance in active leisure
  • Operating swimming pool plant
  • Plan, organise and evaluate active leisure services.
