Learn to manage your training schedule, improve your mental attitude, maintain your health and boost your capability to achieve excellence in your sport with a Level 3 NVQ in Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance.
This NVQ is only available as part of an Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence. To do the Apprenticeship you must be selected by a National Governing Body (NGB) of sport based on your potential and talent - you'll need to have a realistic chance of performing at the highest level in your sport.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

The Level 3 NVQ in Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance covers:

  • improving your technical skills in your chosen sports
  • improving your sporting tactics
  • improving your physical capability
  • improving your mental attitude when playing sports
  • adapting your lifestyle to maximise your sports performance
  • managing your sporting career
  • working and communicating with other people
  • looking after your own health and the health of others.

To gain an NVQ, you need to show you've got a particular set of skills. You usually work with your training provider to review your current skills and find the best way to gain new ones - perhaps by trying new things, or by studying.

If you take an NVQ in Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance, you'll learn within your sport. You'll show progress through ongoing practical assessments.

The Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance NVQ usually takes:

 

  • 1 to 3 years.

This is a rough guide - each centre decides its own timescales and you can often learn at your own pace.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

You will train athletes within their sporting environment and monitor their progress through practical assessments.

In order to offer the NVQ in Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance, you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

  • There is no fast-track available for the NVQ in Achieving Excellence in Sports Performance.

  • Learners must be taking part in the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence in order to take this qualification. This qualification is only available as part of the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence in agreement with specific national governing bodies of sport.

    You complete eight core units:

    • Plan, apply and evaluate your technical skills to achieve excellence in your sport.
    • Plan, apply and evaluate your tactical skills to achieve excellence in your sport.
    • Plan, apply and evaluate your physical capability to achieve excellence in your sport.
    • Plan, apply and evaluate the attitudes and mental skills needed to achieve excellence in your sport.
    • Plan and manage your lifestyle to achieve excellence in your sport
    • Manage your sporting career.
    • Communicate and work effectively with other people whilst seeking to achieve excellence in your sport.
    • Maintain the health and safety of self and others while seeking to achieve excellence in your sport.
