General Information

What's involved in studying this course

To gain an NVQ, you need to show you've got a particular set of skills. You usually work with your training provider to review your current skills and find the best way to gain new ones - perhaps by trying new things at work, or by studying.

NVQs are assessed at work or in a simulated workplace. For each unit your assessor watches and asks questions as you perform a task, or looks at a portfolio of work that you've built as formal evidence of your learning. Then they confirm you've got the skills to do the job well.

Which level is right for me?

Level 2
You work in an airport in ground operations and have some knowledge and basic skills. You want to gain a formal qualification which recognises your skills, and develop your existing knowledge to take on more responsibility at work.

Level 3
You've worked in ground operations for some time - you have plenty of experience, and you might already have some supervisory or management responsibilities. You want a formal qualification that could help you move into a management role.

What careers can this lead to

The NVQ in Aviation Operations on the Ground can help you progress in a wide range of airport roles, including manning a check-in desk, working with aircraft ramps, or coordinating ground operations for an airport.

Once you have completed these qualifications you might want to broaden your skills with qualifications such as:

  • NVQ in Air Cabin Crew
  • Diploma in Travel and Tourism.

If want to develop your management skills then the following qualifications might be of interest:

  • Level 3 S/NVQ in Management
  • Level 4 S/NVQ in Quality Management.
