Skills shortage nation research – the importance of employer commitment to apprenticeships
Ahead of the Apprenticeship Levy launching in April 2017 and the UK’s departure from the European Union, City & Guilds polled 500 senior decision makers from large companies across the UK in December 2016 to gain a better understanding of their current recruitment challenges, their knowledge of the forthcoming changes and their thoughts about the likely impact on their businesses.
The findings of the research were startling, demonstrating that employers regularly struggle to recruit the skilled workforces they need, there was a widespread lack of understanding of the levy and the new apprenticeship system and surprisingly positive attitudes towards the Brexit.
