My Skills

My  Skills helps prepare learners for practice and application of important ‘soft’ skills identified by employers as important to success in the workplace.

What is My Skills?

My Skills is a social e-learning experience accessed through a digital portal called the Skills Zone. It guides learners to complete activities and tasks related to the following 7 core employability skills or ‘experiences’:

Following completion of the 7 core experiences, learners earn digital badges as evidence of their competence in these areas.

My Skills complements a programme of study with a blended learning experience and can contribute to addressing the FELTAG recommendations. It complements:

  • All programmes of study at 14-19
  • The City & Guilds TechBac programme
  • Employability programmes
  • Level 2 and Level 3 provision

How does My Skills work?

  • It grows learner digital capabilities through interactive, multi-media e-learning content, challenging activities and real-world case studies.
  • My Skills is a social learning community with learners encouraged to like other learners’ comments, upload and share resources and also submit content for discussion and reflection on their learning.
  • Learners are awarded Experience Points or XP points for their interaction with the content: points are awarded for watching videos, adding comments to discussions, liking other people’s comments and writing meaningful reflections. XP points drive elements of gamification with a leader board feature to drive engagement.

Evidence of competence of 'soft-skills' - Open Badges and My CV

Open Badges

Using the Open Badges assessment framework, My Skills acknowledges learners’ work- ready characteristics in the form of digital badges. There are two levels of badges that learners can achieve: Work Ready and Expert. These digital credentials can be exported to a Mozilla backpack or My CV and displayed on the learner’s LinkedIn profile.

My CV

My CV is a CV template which is automatically populated with data from My Skills. Learners are also able to upload other key information including qualifications, work experience and references. My CV can be distributed online and even used to create multiple CV’s for applying for different types of jobs, or further study applications.

Tracking learner performance - Performance Optimiser

The Performance Optimiser allows tutors track the performance of individual learners and groups through helpful analytics. Through this, tutors have a clear understanding of which learners are competently progressing through My Skills and which they need to support.
