Changes to our licensing system – new system launch 6th July 2016
We are writing to let you know that following several weeks of testing we will introduce our new licensing system on Wednesday 6th July 2016.

From 6th July, individuals will be able to register for online accounts, apply for or renew SIA licences online, change personal details remotely and, if working for an Approved Contractor, consent to link to their employer.

Businesses will be able to register for online business accounts and access to a range of new products.

Approved Contractors will have access to Licence Management and Licence Assist allowing them to apply online on behalf of consenting staff. The new licensing system will provide a more efficient, effective service to busy people and a growing industry.

We recently publicised that to allow us to transfer large amounts of data from the existing to the new licensing system and deal with applications already in progress, it was necessary immediately before go-live to stop receiving applications and renewals.

We will stop accepting applications and renewals from midnight on Thursday 23rd June until midnight on Tuesday 5th July. This means that any applicants for first time licences or renewals now have 48 hours to go online or deliver paper applications to our Liverpool office.

Ideally, we wanted to provide more notice of closure but, when put against competing issues such securing maximising time to test the system pre-release, we were left with the above dates. We understand that this will be inconvenient to many businesses and individuals but, regrettably, it is unavoidable. We are sorry for any inconvenience it may cause.

What does this mean for you if you are due to renew or awaiting a renewal decision?
  • If you have started an application but not yet submitted it – we recommend that you complete your application before midnight on Thursday 23rd June. This will enable us to process it before our current system gets switched off.

  • If you have already submitted your application – you will not be affected and your application will be processed as normal.

  • If you submit an application before midnight 23rd June but your payment fails – your application will fail and you will have to re-submit it from Wednesday 6th July.

  • If you submit an application but do not provide all of the necessary supporting documentation – your application will fail and you will have to re-submit it from Wednesday 6th July.

  • If you submit an application during midnight on Thursday 23rd June until midnight on Tuesday 5th July – it will be returned to you and you will have to re-submit it once our new system is available.
