Although the doors of colleges and training providers may be closed, we remain committed to unlocking the potential of learners through digital resources and distance learning.

Over the last few weeks you have asked us for support to keep learning live in light of the disruption Covid-19 has caused, with so many individuals now working remotely.

To support you and your learners, we have put together a range of digital resources and made them easy to access and share - no matter where or when.

From e-learning support via our SmartScreen platform to our EPA prep tool and ILM eWorkbooks, we have a range of distance learning resources to ensure your learners and apprentices keep on track.

We will update our offer with additional resources over the coming weeks, including e-Functional Skills Reloaded, Workplace Skills and maths and English tutor online networks.

E-learning resources on SmartScreen

We are committed to supporting you, your staff and your learners in coming to terms with home working. To support our customers during these difficult times, we've made some of our most popular SmartScreen packages available to access free of charge for a limited time. These include:

  • enhanced content to support distance learning, including interactive e-learning, videos, quizzes, and activity sheets

Management of Covid-19 – e-learning

Kineo, our sister organisation who are e-learning specialists, has developed e-learning courses to support your people with the management of Covid-19 as they come to terms with new ways of working. Along with ILM modules to support business continuity and remote working we’ve made these available FREE through SmartScreen.

There are short modules on each of the following:

  • Understanding Covid-19

EPA preparation tool

Customers with apprentices doing end-point assessment with City & Guilds can now have FREE access to our web-based system that boosts an apprentice’s chance of first-time success. It suggests e-learning support targeting presentation and interview skills, reflection and analysis, to build confidence going into the assessment.

User-friendly technology takes the apprentice through a series of questions, to suggest material personalised to their apprenticeship standard and their confidence levels. The content is curated from across the web and covers areas like revision and exam skills, multiple choice test strategies, professional discussion and interview skills.

Learning Assistant

Learning Assistant is City & Guilds and ILM’s digital learning solution supports all learning programmes, including apprenticeships.

Learning Assistant provides the programme structure with embedded assessment and quality assurance tools to support and improve the standardisation and allow teams and learners to work remotely, but stay connected in real time.

Here are six ways Learning Assistant can help during this time;

Standardisation – standardisation among delivery teams can be managed, by having a single point to access documentation and resources relating to qualification or standards

Reporting – management teams can customise and schedule reports from learner progress to team interactions. These can be exported and emailed to stakeholders such as employers

Programme builds – we provide the standards and qualifications which can then be enhanced upon to tailor the delivery including adding resources for delivery teams and/or learners. City & Guilds Apprenticeship Training Manuals are included where available free of charge.

Communication – tools to support the communication between the delivery teams, the learner and the employer supporting the apprentice through the on-programme journey. These include Planning, Review and Feedback as well as the recording of the 20% Off the Job requirements

Digital Forms – a new feature that allows administrators to create standardised forms that can be used as part of a review process, or a feedback form that is embedded within Learning Assistant creating an audit history.

Mobile Friendly and app – users can access LA on most mobile devices. Learners and Assessor can access LA through the LA Anywhere app

New Workplace Skills and maths and English resources coming soon

Keep maths and English skills live (Launching in May)

eFunctional Skills takes maths and English learning online, supporting immersive learning from entry level 1 through to level 3.

To boost benefits, we will be adding free training sessions twice a week so you can be sure your teaching staff don’t struggle to come to terms with a new system. Our expert support team is on hand to answer any questions.

Virtual networking - there’s strength in numbers, so why not drop into Teach Meet. Unlike our established webinars and face-to-face meetings, these new online sessions are part of an informal community of practice. Share ideas, experiences and talk about what this new world of learning means for you. Book a slot in advance or on the day or simply log in and listen to invited customer experts and City & Guilds/ILM team members sharing government advice.


Keep Workplace Skills live (Launching in May)
