Supporting delivery and your learners' progression through digital resources

Thank you for using our free resources

Over the last three months we have offered a range of free digital resources and support, to keep your learners engaged as we have adapted to the sudden shift in ways of working due to Covid-19.

The offer of our free resources will be coming to an end shortly at the end of August, but we wanted to highlight the brilliant response from you, our customers, in using these resources to support your learning programmes.

Since March we have been delighted to support you and reach over 80,000 learners through offering access to thousands of our SmartScreen packages, which have been tremendously popular particularly with our Hair and Business Admin customers.

Your feedback has been great to hear, and were proud to support you and you learners during such a difficult time.

If you wanted to speak to us on this discounted offer or on how we can help you adapt to new models of delivery, please email directsales@cityandguilds.com.

Maths and English support – e-Functional Skills Reloaded and Open Assess

Keep maths and English learning live

Open Assess

We are offering access to Open Assess, which enables learners to practice ahead of their exams, with the ability for tutors to mark their test remotely.

Access to Open Assess is free. The online practice test platform is loaded with City & Guilds Functional Skills legacy and reformed practice tests, markable remotely by tutors to support assessment readiness.

You can access it via the dedicated page, and you will need to be and existing City & Guilds centre already signed up to use e-volve to use the platform.

Don’t forget if you are a Tutor, you can always tap into our existing maths and English SmartScreen resources (£350 per package). It supports remote maths and English learning, with resource guides and a significant bank of print and digital learning content for teachers/tutors and learners. Email directsales@cityandguilds.com for a trial.

Remote teaching and learning – TeachMeets

As you have moved from the classroom to working remotely, opportunities to share ideas and network with colleagues are a bit more limited. At the same time the sudden shift to remote teaching and learning has prompted fresh thinking on how maths and English can be delivered differently.

To offer you a place to connect with your peers, we have arranged some TeachMeets.

These sessions are an opportunity for practitioners (teachers, tutors, assessors and managers) to share some of the ideas they've had, approaches they've tried out, resources and tools that are working, and showcase some of the good practice they are developing.

Unlike our established webinars and face-to-face meetings, these new online sessions are an informal community of practice.

How does it work?

We will be hosting three live 90-minute web conferences. Participants can use the platform to share quick tips, ideas, experiences and best practice, or request longer slots to showcase their remote learning practice.

We will host and facilitate the session, but it’s your first hand experiences that we need. So sign up for event, book yourself a slot, and let’s start sharing! We will send back to you a summary of all the learning from the session.

We will be offering digital credentials to those participating in the sessions.

Strengthen skills for the world of work – Workplace Skills

Take advantage of Workplace Skills – for free

We know how challenging it is to shift to remote delivery and keep learners engaged at this time.

We also know that employers want learners and apprentices to be developing a broader range of soft skills to be work ready, so we have pulled together key skills and behaviours from our Workplace Skills platform, and moved them into SmartScreen for free for a limited period.

Whether it’s communicating digitally, problem solving or driving independent learning, our Workplace Skills modules are a great way to complement technical learning and ensure learners are well rounded - whether they are working remotely or getting ready to enter the workplace once restrictions end.

13 skills areas are employer led and mapped to apprenticeship behaviours.  Learners can sharpen their skills via a mixture of videos, quizzes, pdfs, interactive tasks and decision-making scenarios that amount to over 14 hours of self- directed learning – particularly useful if they are currently furloughed or working at home.

Our Workplace Skills package is easy to deliver, freeing up your time with a single consistent set of resources you can trust, whilst enabling you to prove progression and access funding.

Here’s what’s on offer:

Independent learning

Self-motivation

Communicating digitally

Using online resources

Writing for impact

Listening to understand

Understanding customers

Working in teams

Learning Assistant

Learning Assistant is City & Guilds and ILM’s digital learning solution supports all learning programmes, including apprenticeships.

Learning Assistant provides the programme structure with embedded assessment and quality assurance tools to support and improve the standardisation and allow teams and learners to work remotely, but stay connected in real time.

Here are six ways Learning Assistant can help during this time;

Standardisation – standardisation among delivery teams can be managed, by having a single point to access documentation and resources relating to qualification or standards

Reporting – management teams can customise and schedule reports from learner progress to team interactions. These can be exported and emailed to stakeholders such as employers

Programme builds – we provide the standards and qualifications which can then be enhanced upon to tailor the delivery including adding resources for delivery teams and/or learners. City & Guilds Apprenticeship Training Manuals are included where available free of charge.

Communication – tools to support the communication between the delivery teams, the learner and the employer supporting the apprentice through the on-programme journey. These include Planning, Review and Feedback as well as the recording of the 20% Off the Job requirements

Digital Forms – a new feature that allows administrators to create standardised forms that can be used as part of a review process, or a feedback form that is embedded within Learning Assistant creating an audit history.

Mobile Friendly and app – users can access LA on most mobile devices. Learners and Assessor can access LA through the LA Anywhere app

Learning Assistant is available worldwide and is a way to inspire, motivate and bring learning to life.
