You can become a member of a vibrant and highly qualified team of examiners with a range of responsibilities from marking, question paper writing and scrutiny, awarding and/or ensuring quality across a wide range of exams.

We are recruiting for suitable, qualified individuals with the right background, to become examiners for a range of qualifications, assessments, and industries. Please see below more details about the differentmexaminer roles and links to current vacancies.

  • Chair, Chief & Principal Examiners

      Chair, Chief and Principal Examiner positions are senior examiner positions linked to assessments that require marking and often have marking teams.  We have a range of Chair, Chief and Principal Examiner positions across different qualifications, the specific requirements for each of the roles vary depending on the qualification and associated examiner structure.  Typical responsibilities include

      • Monitoring and maintaing standards of assessments over time
      • Writing assessment materials and associate mark schemes or marking guidance
      • Chairing or participating in Assessment Material Evaluation Committee (AMEC) meetings
      • Leading marker standardisation meetings, sampling and monitoring the work of Marking Examiners
      • Participating in standard setting activities such as Awarding
      • Writing Examiner Reports

  • Writing / Editing Examiners

      Writing/Editing Examiners are responsible for writing assessment materials and associate mark schemes or marking guidance and participating in Assessment Material Evaluation Committee (AMEC) meetings to edit and sign off assessment materials.

      Assessment materials could include multiple choice questions, written response questions, and mark schemes or assignment tasks and marking/grading guidance.

      Training is provided on how to write and edit assessment materials.

      Depending on the qualification and existing examiner teams, we may advertise for Writing/Editing Examiners or Editing (AMEC members) Examiners

  • Scrutineers or Independent Reviewers

      A Scruitineer or Independent Reviewer carrys out a final check on assessment materials and mark schemes/marking guidance at the point it is deemed to be final draft. 

      Scruitineers and Independent Reviewers must be subject matter experts for the assessment they are carrying out a scruitiny/independent review check for and must not have been par of the writing or editing phase of the assessment production.

  • Marking Examiners

      Marking Examiners core responsibility is to mark candidates’ responses in accordance with the pre-defined mark scheme, whilst adhering to guidance and examination procedures, including the following specific responsibilities

      • Prepare for and participate in standardisation of markers meetings
      • Mark candidates’ scripts in accordance with the agreed marking scheme accurately and consistently, and to the standard and deadlines set by the Chief Examiner/Principal Examiner or City & Guilds
      • Submit samples to the Chief Examiner/Principal Examiner at designated times
      • Produce an examiner’s report and submit it within the specified time

      Marking periods vary dependent on the assessments, specific details are captured with the role details.

  • How to apply

      To apply for the Examiner Roles please following link - Examiner Vacancies or Click on the ‘CLICK HERE TO SEE ALL VACANCIES in the green box (top right of the screen) to view all examiner vacancies. 

      Follow below steps:

      1. Select the industry you are expert in and either scroll down and review all roles or enter the role title you are interested in the keyword search filed eg Marking examiner
      2. Select the role you are interested in
      3. Review all the advert information including the Job Descriptions or Task Profiles and Person Specifications that can be found within the specific job advert. These outline the expectations of the roles including the times of the year marking activities will take place and guidance on how much time commitment will need to be given.  
      4. It is important you read the Job Description or Task Profile & Person Specification for the role and map your application to this. Applications that do not clearly show this are unlikely to be considered for the next stage of our recruitment process.  Your application will be delayed and may be rejected if the required occupational qualifications and/or experience are not listed. 
      5. Scroll to the bottom of the page to start your application 
      6. You need to submit an application for each role you are interested in, for example if you wish to apply for writer/editor examiner and marking examiner  or if you wish to be a marking examiner for more than one assessment
