This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 and above who work or want to work in the construction industry and specialise in plastering.

This qualification is for candidates who work or want to work as a plasterer in the construction sector in Scotland.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

It allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment, an apprenticeship and/or career progression in plastering.
There are two pathways for this qualification: 'Solid' or 'Fibrous'
For the 'Solid' pathway. the following specialist areas are covered:

  • applying solid plaster to complex internal structures
  • producing complex external render finishes

It also covers optional areas including:

  • Installing direct dry bond dry lining systems
  • Installing mechanically fixed plasterboard
  • Run in situ mouldings

For the 'Fibrous' pathway. the following specialist areas are covered, these are all mandatory units:

  • Run in situ mouldings
  • Producing fibrous plaster components
  • Producing complex plasterwork moulds
  • Installing complex fibrous plaster components
  • Repairing complex decorative fibrous plaster components
What Careers Can This Lead To?

It allows candidates to progress into employment and can lead to a variety of careers in the construction industry, with a focus on plastering. It can also lead onto other SVQ qualifications in the construction trades. Plasterers can also have a varied career working on new builds, refurbishments or in specialist areas. After gaining work experience in the chosen occupational area there are also opportunities to progress into occupational work supervision, management or technical support areas.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver this qualification, new centres will need to gain both centre and qualification approval. Centre staff should familiarise themselves with the structure, content and assessment requirements of this qualification and ensure that they have suitably qualified staff with occupational expertise and appropriate resources.
