The SVQ Level 2 Social Services and Healthcare) at SCQF Level 6 is the replacement qualification for the 3174 SVQ Level 2 SVQ in Health & Social Care at SCQF level 6

The SVQ Level 3 Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF Level 7 is the replacement qualification for the 3175 SVQ Level 3 SVQ in Health & Social Care (Adult pathway).  The Children’s Social Care pathway of Health & Social Care has been replaced by the 4174 SVQ Level 3 in Social Services (Children and Young People) at SCQF Level 7

The Social Services and Healthcare qualifications cover a wide range of knowledge and skills required by those working with adults with differing needs in a wide range of social care and integrated care settings.  

Individuals working in adult social care services are required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).  These qualifications form part of the requirement to register with SSSC as the workforce regulator.  Details of the requirements can be found on the SSSC website.

 

For learners who work or want to work in the social services sector specialising in care of adults.  Examples of work settings could include residential care for older people, learning disabilities services, mental health services, care at home, or where workers are working with individuals who direct their own care and support. You can be volunteering or in employment - a new starter or an experienced worker. The level of qualification chosen will depend on the role of the learner within the work setting.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?
Learners may be expected to attend off the job learning sessions or may be supported on a distance learning or on a one to one basis to help them acquire the knowledge and understanding needed so that they can then apply this to their work.
What Careers Can This Lead To?

This qualification can lead to careers in residential care for older people, learning disabilities and mental health services, for example as a support worker or at level 3 a role which may be more supervisory or complex.

Progression

Level 2 learners may progress into employment or to the following City & Guilds qualification:
SVQ 3 Social Services and Healthcare at SCQF Level 7.

Level 3 learners may progress into employment or to the following qualification:
SVQ 4 Social Services and Healthcare.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?
The qualification can be delivered through a college, private training provider or employer based centre.  The learner must have access to real work activities so that they can demonstrate competence as well as knowledge and understanding.  Learners are assessed by occupationally competent assessors and assessments are subject to quality assurance internal to the centre and also by City & Guilds.
