The purpose of the International Certificate in English Language B1 & B2 levels is to provide a reliable and easy to deliver English language test. This will enable organisations to ascertain the English language ability of their learners and/or employees to make decisions about recruitment, workforce development for the purpose of education or employment progression. 

The qualifications will allow candidates to demonstrate their abilities to communicate in English and are intended for 

  • non-native speakers of English worldwide
  • young people or adults attending an English course
  • people needing English for their everyday or working life
  • learners who require externally recognised certification of their levels in English
  • those who require a series of graded examinations to provide steps up in the ladder of proficiency

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

To achieve the International Certificate in English Language (B1 & B2) candidates must successfully complete five individual tests, four of which are graded:

Vocabulary and Grammar (not graded)

Speaking

Listening

Reading

Writing

What Careers Can This Lead To?

This qualification will show employers the level of English that learners have attained and what it compares to in the Common European Framework of References for Language (CEFR). This external benchmark can help learners' job prospects in their chosen fields.  

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

Staff delivering these qualifications must be able to demonstrate that they meet the following requirements:

  • be technically competent in English Language teaching
  • be able to deliver across the breadth and depth of the content of the qualification being taught
  • have recent relevant teaching experience in the specific area they will be teaching, or be working towards this
  • demonstrate continuing CPD.

Centres must be able to demonstrate that they have access to the equipment and technical resources required to deliver this qualification and its assessments.
