City & Guilds dog grooming courses can help you become a dog groomer or build on an existing career in the industry. Our dog grooming training focuses on the principles and practices of modern dog grooming techniques. 
The Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants is for anyone who wants to start working in the industry. You don't need any previous qualifications. 
 
The Level 3 Certificate in Introductory Dog Grooming or the Level 3 Diploma for Professional Dog Stylists is suitable for those who have experience of working in the industry, or have completed a related qualification

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

Depending on the qualification, you'll cover things like:

  • Trimming and styling different types of coat
  • Dog washing
  • Transporting animals
  • Reception duties
  • Handling payments
  • Health and safety.

You will learn the skills you need to complete the course in a learning environment rather than on the job.

For the Level 2 Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants, you'll do an E-assessment and a practical demonstration or assignment.

For the Level 3 Certificate in Introductory Dog Grooming, you'll do a practical demonstration or assignment and a written test.

For the Level 3 Diploma for Professional Dog Stylists, you'll do a practical demonstration or assignment, a practical test, and a written test.

Which level is right for me?

Level 2
You have little or no knowledge or working in the dog grooming industry and want to learn the skills you need to work under supervision in a dog grooming salon.

Level 3
You've worked in the dog grooming industry for some time - you have plenty of experience. You want to develop your skills further, learn how to style different breeds of dog and perhaps to move into a management role.

The Certificate for Dog Grooming Assistants could help you get a job as a dog groomer or assistant dog groomer.

The Certificate in Introductory Dog Grooming could help you get a job as a dog groomer or kennel worker.

The Diploma for Professional Dog Stylists could help you get a job as a senior dog groomer or manager in a dog grooming salon.

Once you have completed these qualifications, you could also go on to do a Level 3 work-based Diploma in Animal Care or a Level 4 NVQ in Animal Management.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Anyone can take this qualification, but you must make sure all your learners can access the resources they need to complete it.

Level 2

This level is ideal if you want to begin working in the dog grooming industry and want to learn the skills you need to work under supervision in a dog grooming salon.

To earn this qualification, you must complete a range of mandatory and optional units, including:
  • Bathing and cleaning dogs
  • Controlling and restraining animals
  • Handling payments from clients.
