MOT Qualifications and CPD qualifications and training courses

These qualifications are for anyone who wants to become an MOT Tester or an MOT Manager (Authorised Examiner/ Designated Manager)
Anyone who wants to become an MOT Tester, or an Authorised Examiner/ Designated Manager will need to achieve these qualifications as a first step towards becoming licenced in England, Wales and Scotland.

In addition, DVSA require all Testers and Managers to complete MOT annual training and a multiple-choice online test assessment.

Please remember that to stay qualified as a MOT tester you must complete your CPD training and pass the MOT Annual Assessment test by 31 March each year.

This is also a requirement for MOT Tester and MOT Manager trainers and assessors. Please refer to the Qualification Handbook for further information.

Driver Vehicle and Standards Agency (DVSA):
The DVSA is an executive agency, sponsored by the Department for Transport.
We share MOT Tester, MOT Manager and Annual MOT Tester Assessment achievement data with the DVSA to support it in monitoring MOT Testers, MOT Managers and the centres in which they work.

Level 2

At this level you will learn:

Safe working practices in the vehicle test centre
How to maintain good Working relationships within the vehicle test centre
How to Manage own professional development as an MOT Tester
How to carry out pre-test checks for a statutory periodic roadworthiness test
How to carry out a statutory periodic roadworthiness test.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

Learners who achieve this qualification will be able to apply for a licence to become a MOT Tester.

Level 2 Award in MOT Testing (3428-02)

Level 3

At this level you will learn how to:

Manage the legislative and compliance requirements of a Vehicle Test centre
Deal with customer service problems within a test centre
Develop and supervise staff within a test centre
Understand Test centre quality systems and quality audits.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

Learners who achieve this qualification will be able to apply for a licence to become an Authorised Examiner (AE)/Authorised Examiner Designated Manager (AEDM).
