TechBac offers a unique mix of two elements: practical learning in a vocational subject with developing the workplace skills that employers demand.

There are two components to TechBac:

  • City & Guilds Technical Qualification – in your chosen subject area
  • City & Guilds Workplace Skills - needed in all lines of work

You’ll study both of these as part of your TechBac.

Workplace Skills is a new learning experience that gives you the workplace skills, attitudes and abilities to help you succeed in the work environment.

Workplace Skills – for your success

  • Workplace Skills will give you the confidence you need to succeed in the jobs market
  • It teaches you the key employability skills that employers look for
  • It gives you skills and qualifications to enhance your CV
  • It gives you the opportunity to achieve a Project Qualification in your subject area. At Level 3 these qualifications carry UCAS points to enable you to progress to university
  • It gives you the freedom to learn at your own pace anytime and anywhere – our digital learning platform, Skills Zone, can be accessed from mobile phones and tablets for use at home or on the go
 

What will I do on Workplace Skills?

Through this programme you’ll complete:

  • MySkills elearning – rich elearning content that helps you to develop the key employability skills needed by all employers
  • Team Challenge  – a national competition that is set and judged by leading employers, such as  the BBC
  • Project Qualification – a project that helps you to develop independent study skills and involves planning, research, critical thinking, and presentation skills
  • Work Placement – if you’re 16 or over, you must do a work placement. TechBac supports you with elearning and an interactive logbook to track what you’ve learnt on your placement

What qualifications will I get?

With a TechBac, you’ll receive the following qualifications and achievements:

  • Certificate for a City & Guilds Technical Qualification
  • Certificate for a City & Guilds Project Qualification   
  • Formal City & Guilds statement detailing your full TechBac learning
  • Open Badges (digital credentials) on your online CV to demonstrate that you’ve achieved City & Guilds Workplace Skills

What levels are available?

TechBac is available in the following levels:

  • Level 2 Introductory TechBac – for learners aged 14-16 (Key Stage 4)
  • Level 2 TechBac – for learners aged 16-19 (Key Stage 5)
  • Level 3 Advanced TechBac – for learners aged 16-19 (Key Stage 5
  • Level 2 Introductory TechBac is designed to be taken alongside your GCSEs in years 10 and 11
  • Level 2 TechBac and Level 3 Advanced TechBac are for post-16 study, and offer a choice of Technical Qualification sizes, so you can find the best option for your programme of study.

Where will TechBac get me?

We've designed TechBac to help you progress to:

  • Further learning - Level 2 qualifications within TechBac can help you progress to the next stage or to academic courses, such as A Levels
  • Employment - If you’re at least 16, you can to go straight into a job, already armed with skills and a richer CV
  • Apprenticeship – If you’re 16 or older you can become an apprentice and ‘earn while you learn’
  • University and higher education - Level 3 qualifications within TechBac carry UCAS points, to help you progress to university.
