Progression routes

Our Key Stage 5 Technical Qualifications allow learners to progress onto apprenticeships, employment or to a related higher education course. In addition, our Technical Qualifications can also be used alongside traditional academic courses like GCSEs and A Levels for a more flexible approach to learning.

Progressing into employment

Our Technical Qualifications were created in collaboration with employers and industry bodies, and are continually reviewed for relevance by sector-specific experts to ensure they are truly fit-for-purpose. From Key Stage 5, Level 3, learners are able to progress straight into a job.

Progressing to university

At City & Guilds, all of our Level 3 Technical Qualifications can help you progress into university. The UCAS tariff points that our Level 3 Technical Qualifications carry are aligned with A Levels, depending on their grades and sizes, and by undertaking a Technical Qualification, you can strengthen your application for an undergraduate degree in the UK.

Universities accepting Technical Qualifications

The following universities welcome applications from learners with City & Guilds Advanced Technical Extended Diplomas for related degree courses. Learners must meet all pre–requisite and entry requirements for individual universities and degree courses.

In 2017,  a new UCAS tariff was introduced for higher education courses. It is based on a new approach, using a qualification’s size and grades to calculate total tariff points.

Note: Not all universities and colleges use the UCAS tariff when making offers to prospective students, but if you’re concerned about whether a qualification will be accepted, it’s best to get in touch with the university or college directly for more details on their entry requirements for the particular course of interest.

Progressing to an apprenticeship

City & Guilds Technical Qualifications allow learners to transition seamlessly into an apprenticeship in their chosen field.
