John has worked within the FE sector for over 43 years at a large specialist college in the North of England. Whilst working on the college farm he completed a degree in Land Management and Technology on a part time basis. Throughout his working life he has gained a wide range of City and Guilds/NPTC qualifications starting with a Level 1 on a day release basis after leaving school, then going to college to do a Level 2 and offered a job on the college farm for a year or 18 months to gain more experience. He gained various Certificates of Competence throughout his time on the farm. In 1999 he was offered a lecturing post and in 2002 made Head of Agriculture a post he held for 16 years the last 7 years as an outstanding department. John was lead IQA for both full time FE and apprenticeships linked to agriculture.

As a Technical Advisor for Land, John’s role is incredibly varied from advising on Floristry to Land based engineering and from Equine queries to Arboricultural qualifications and everything in between. John is passionate about the wider land industry and the importance of maintaining traditional skills as well as championing new technologies and developments within the Land-based industries.
