City & Guilds is delighted to congratulate Toni Pearce on her election as President of the National Union of Students (NUS).

Toni, who has served as a valued member of City & Guilds’ Council since October 2012, is only the second NUS president to have a Further Education (FE) background rather than a university qualification.

Having previously served as the president of the Cornwall College Students’ Union and the NUS Vice-President for FE, Toni brings great experience and knowledge of the FE sector to her new post. She pledges to use her term to prioritise funding for FE and apprenticeships.

Speaking about Toni’s accomplishment, City & Guilds CEO and Director General Chris Jones said: ‘This is great news for the FE sector. Her presence will certainly give FE a strong representation in the NUS. It shows great progress towards raising the profile of vocational education and the excellent opportunities it can offer. In addition, this is an important step forward in gaining FE the same level of recognition as higher education. We look forward to working closely with Toni in the coming years.’
