About these qualifications

The Level 1/2/3 Award in Computerised Accounts (8989-01/02/03) aims to: meet the needs of candidates who work or want to work in job roles such as Accounting technicians, Accounts/Finance clerks, Private practice accountants.
These qualifications allow learners to develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the accounting sector, they can also contribute to the knowledge and understanding of the related Level 2 Certificate and 3 Diploma in Accounting (7437).

Who are they for

The Level 1 Award in Computerised Accounts is designed for learners seeking a first qualification in the practical use of computerised accounts with a view to entry into employment or to gain skills using this application in their current role. It would be useful for learners to have an understanding of the terms used in basic book-keeping.

The Level 2 Award in Computerised Accounts is aimed at learners seeking  broad experience in using computerised accounts software and to enhance their competence, allowingthem to use the application independently for routine activities. It is also aimed at those who want to enter employment in a computerised accounts environment.

The Level 3 Award in Computersied Accounts will provide learners who are competent users of accounting software the skills required by today’s business for the preparation and monitoring of financial data, allowing them to act independtly to deal with more unfamiliar activities.

What's involved in studying this course?

For each of these qualifications, you will be required to complete a City & Guilds set and marked test. This will consist of practical tasks.

Which level is right for me?

Level 1
The aim of the qualification is to enable learners to operate computerised accounts software to carry out routine accounting tasks. These will include being able to create accounts, processing accounting information in respect of the sales and purchase ledger, understanding how to use batch control sheets and being able to produce accounting reports such as trial balance, customer activity reports and supplier details reports.

Level 2
The aim of the qualification is to enable learners to carry out everyday operational aspects of computerised accounts. These include processing accounting transactions, producing customer and supplier documentation and producing reports such as aged creditor analysis and sales day book summaries for management purposes.

Level 3
The aim of the qualification is to enable learners to carry out everyday operational parts of computerised accounting, involving the interpretation and processing of both routine and non-routine transactions, together with the production of accounting reports such as profit and loss accounts and balance sheets.

What careers can this lead to?

The qualifications provide knowledge related to the City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate and Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.

On completion of these qualifications candidates may progress into employment or to the following City & Guilds qualifications:

  • City & Guilds Level 1-3 Award in Business Finance
  • City & Guilds Level 1-3 Award Book-keeping and Accounts
  • City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate and Level 3 Diploma in Accounting.
