The Word Processing Techniques qualifications can prepare you for the modern workplace by equipping you with skills and knowledge to effectively use word processing software. They are designed to test your ability, through practical tasks to enable you to use word processing software to produce accurate and well presented documents.
These word processing qualifications are for anyone interested in starting or developing a career in any general business, service or administrative function. While no formal entry requirement is needed to take these qualifications, it is advised that you have some familiarity with keyboarding skills and a good command of the English language commonly used in business.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

The qualifications cover the most commonly used conventions in industry standard word processing software, the checklist of concepts covered can be found in the qualification handbook and examination guides.

During the a course you will be assessed in a variety of methods, including through practical exercises. The final assessment is by a City & Guilds set exam in time conditions. Please refer to the examination guide for additional details on assessments, sample papers, mark schemes and examiner recommendations.

The appropriateness of a level to meet your needs will depend on your familiarity with word processing software, for those with little or no experience, the Essential level would be appropriate. Tutors should be consulted for further advice.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

A range of careers are open to you on completing the qualifications. Administrative roles, office mangers, and general business related functions are all possible career alternatives for candidates that achieve the Essential and Intermediate level qualifications.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

To offer these qualifications it is advised that you are able use industry standard software facilities with flexibility for varied hardware and software specifications.

Particularly at higher levels the hardware, software, and print facilities should be of high standard in order to facilitate candidates producing work to a professional level.

Level 1

Essential Level: Assesses your skills in producing standard documents. Students, young people seeking office employment and adults wishing to refresh their word processing skills are ideal candidates at this level.
