ITQs for IT Users (7574)

The City & Guilds ITQ is suitable for anybody who uses IT whether at home or work. The flexible structure and assessment methods of the ITQ mean that it can be adapted for a variety of courses in the classroom or almost any workplace or job role as part of an intended career. 

Centres can create programmes that meet local demand for IT or employer needs, from courses for office automation to web development for businesses to keeping in touch using internet and email for the individuals.
 
The Level 2 and Level 3 Diploma qualifications are part of the IT Application Specialist apprenticeship framework.

7574-20 City & Guilds Level 2 Award in Digital Skills for Construction 

The qualification has been approved as meeting the requirements of CITB Wales and the Welsh Government for inclusion in the Welsh Apprenticeship Frameworks for Construction, from March 2023. This qualification is intended for apprentices.  The QiW number is C00/4688/1.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

The qualification provides from a basic level skills and knowledge that could lead to further education in IT or related areas, as well as underpinning other educational sectors to higher levels of competency for those required to work independently or supervise others. For those moving into their first job role the ITQ can provide the confidence to work effectively with ICT and deal with tasks that are straightforward or routine.

Which level is right for me?

Level 1
A Level 1 user can make use of predefined or commonly used IT tools for activities that are straightforward or routine, identifying and using automated methods or alternative ways of working to improve productivity. Any aspect that is unfamiliar will require support and advice from other people.

Level 2
A Level 2 user can make use of predefined or commonly used IT tools for activities that are at times non-routine or unfamiliar, they will be able to devise solutions to use IT tools to improve productivity. Any aspect that is unfamiliar will require support and advice from other people.

Level 3
A Level 3 user can make use of predefined or commonly used IT tools for activities most of which are complex and non-routine, they will be able to devise solutions in the use of IT tools in order to improve productivity. They will take considerable responsibility and autonomy, and be prepared to offer support and advice to others.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

With guidance a learner will be able to operate information and communication software or hardware with knowledge and understanding at the relevant level in a variety of topics they undertake.

The qualifications can be delivered in either the classroom or the workplace. Learners are assessed through:

  • Portfolio of evidence (paper or electronic)
  • Scenario based assignments
  • Using 'expert witnesses' from within an organisation
  • Observation
  • Professional discussion
  • A combination of the above.
Approval Process
If you're an existing approved centre delivering a City & Guilds ITQ (4322 or 7541) or e-Quals 07 (7266), then you will be offered automatic approval to deliver the ITQ. If you are not using City & Guilds IT qualifications, then you will need to complete a qualification approval form (QAP).
Organisations which are not already City & Guilds centres must apply for centre and qualification approval.

Physical resources
Centres must provide access to sufficient equipment in the centre or workplace to ensure candidates have the opportunity to cover all of the practical activities.

Centres are encouraged to gather evidence through the use of an e-portfolio like Learning Assistant from City & Guilds, though tools in current use are also acceptable.

Level 1

A Level 1 user can make use of predefined or commonly used IT tools for activities that are straightforward or routine, identifying and using automated methods or alternative ways of working to improve productivity. Any aspect that is unfamiliar will require support and advice from other people.

An activity will typically be ‘straightforward or routine’ because:

  • The task or context will be familiar and involve few factors (for example, time available, audience needs, message, structure); and
