Bricklaying (SCQF) qualifications and training courses

Bricklaying is one of the traditional trades both in the UK and around the world - Sir Winston Churchill is known to have enjoyed laying bricks and building walls during his lifetime. Those studying bricklaying will learn a variety of skills to enable them to build, repair and maintain the country's housing stock.

Our qualifications are aimed at people wishing to learn some skills in bricklaying, to progress on to becoming skilled in their chosen trade, or to progress through an apprenticeship and work towards becoming a master craftsman.

We have produced sample tests to enable tutors and learners to experience the look and feel of e-volve prior to sitting the test, and also experience the type and style of question that will be asked in the test.

SCQF 4

It allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Bricklaying.

It covers the following skills:

Carrying out Blocklaying activities
Carrying out Bricklaying activities
Carrying out Cavity Walling activities

SCQF 5

It allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Bricklaying.

It covers the following skills:

· Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures

· Producing thin joint masonry and masonry cladding

· Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers

· Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures

Our Extended Diplomas are intended for use as part of apprenticeships for learners just starting out in construction trades, typically aged 16. Centres are advised to use both the Level 4 and Level 5 handbooks, which contain all the units for the extended diplomas.

Repair and maintain masonry structures
Constructing radial and battered brickwork
Carrying out decorative and reinforced brickwork

Constructing fireplaces and chimneys

A Level 6 qualification is an advanced level of craftsmanship, and can lead to a variety of careers in the construction industry, with a focus on bricklaying.
