What are e-Certificates?
e-Certificates is a new service offered by City & Guilds which enables centres to view and download electronic PDF versions of certificates 24 hours after the results are published on Walled Garden. Centres will be able to access verifiable electronic copies of all certificates issued from 1 April 2013.
Will e-Certificates replace traditional certificates?
No, centres will still continue to receive printed copies of certificates if they wish. However e-certificates are issued and endorsed by City & Guilds as a valuable digitally verifiable alternative to traditional presentation certificates.
Dealing with the administration of certificates is time consuming – can e-certificates help with this?
If you are interested in removing the administrative burden of dealing with paper certificates and results list you could distribute the e-certificates to your learners by email or print them on the learners behalf if you wish. Alternatively if you are interested in providing your learners with free accounts so they can access their own certificates and receive email notification when a new one is ready then we’d love to hear from you – please let your business manager know, or email firstname.lastname@example.org

Are e-Certificates secure and how can they be verified?
e-Certificates are secure. Each e-Certificate is issued with a unique QR code (a two dimensional barcode) and a certificate authentication code linked to the learner’s name. The authenticity of an e-Certificate can be checked and assured by either:
- Scanning the QR code on the certificate using a QR reader and following the on-screen prompt or
- By visiting the e-Certificate verification web page and entering the learner name and certificate authentication code.
Are e-Certificates accepted by ACE?
Yes, e-Certificates are accepted. However you may find it faster to use other evidence – please see here for more information about the evidence you can use.
Do e-Certificates comply with Ofqual’s General Conditions of Recognition?
Yes e-Certificates comply with the requirements set out in Conditions I3 ‘Design and content of certificates’ and I4 ‘Issuing certificates and replacement certificates.’
Is my centre eligible to receive e-Certificates?
Yes, we are offering this service to all centres. To discuss how e-Certificates can benefit your centre please contact your Business Manager or email email@example.com
How much will it cost?
City & Guilds e-Certificates service is charged on an annual license fee. For information on pricing please contact your Business Manager or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Can I cancel?
You can cancel your subscription to e-Certificates at any time however please note the annual license fee is non-refundable.
How do I get started?
To activate your account all you need to do is to complete our online form. To help set you up as quickly and efficiently as possible we will need you to provide the following information:
- Centre type
- Centre name
- Centre contact details
- List of Walled Garden users who you will want to have access to e-Certificates
- Named main contact
- Purchase order number
Please note that in order to access e-Certificates, users must have an Exams User profile on Walled Garden. If you or your users do not have an existing Walled Garden account with the Exams User profile please contact email@example.com to get set up.
Are e-Certificates available from the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM)?
No, there are currently no plans to introduce this.
