How to use maths and English qualifications

To help you navigate the maths and English landscape, we’ve put together a useful guide to allow you to easily compare the various maths and English qualifications that City & Guilds offers. It also allows you to see how each of these qualifications relate to GCSE, so you can pick the right qualification for your learners.

Wales and Northern Ireland

Although City & Guilds offers maths and English qualifications in every part of the UK (and internationally), different qualifications are available in Northern Ireland and Wales to align with local public policy and funding objectives.

Two main qualification suites are available to support the development of numeracy, literacy and digital literacy in Wales:

Northern Ireland

The ESOL Skills for Life qualifications (4692) support English language acquisition for speakers of other languages based permanently within the UK. These qualifications are offered across England, Northern Ireland and Wales. They replace the previous qualification (3692) from September 2014.
