Assistant Practitioners qualifications and training courses

This diploma is part of an apprenticeship framework, developed by Skills for Health.

This diploma is aimed at all assistant practitioners. It focuses on consolidation of learning and on embedding consistently good practice in core areas, as well as the development of additional knowledge and skills.

Having completed this diploma, workers may then progress into undergraduate healthcare profession programmes such as nurse training.

This is aimed at all assistant practitioners or those individual that wish to become assistant practitioners. Candidates may also be in other roles and recruited as apprentices on to this programme It is only available to those aged 18 years old.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You will learn about a variety of areas directly relevant to the role, including assessing patients, understanding health principles and effective team working. You will generally learn within your work setting. You will be assessed through written assignments, and your competency in your work practice.

Having completed this diploma, workers may then consider progressing into undergraduate healthcare profession programmes offered by universities and further education colleges offering higher education qualifications.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

This competence-based qualification is designed to be assessed in the candidate’s workplace as they undertake their normal work role. On-site assessors/trainers/tutors should also be work-based and delivery staff must meet the requirements as outlined in the qualification handbook.

The knowledge based units will be assessed by City & Guilds externally set and internally marked/verified assignments. Competence based units will assessed through work-based practice and all evidence will be collated through a portfolio. The portfolios of evidence will show candidates have demonstrated their practice and knowledge which meets a range of qualification assessment criteria.

Fast-track approval is currently available from the Level 4 Higher Professional Diploma in Health and Well-being (4462). Centres that have not offered 4462 must go through the qualification approval process.

Level 5

This is a level 5 diploma and is aimed at all assistant practitioners or those individuals wanting to become assistant practitioners in a range of hospital environments.
