On completion of the Level 2 & 3 NVQ Diplomas in Heating and Ventilation the learner will be in possession of the practical skills and knowledge to work on  a range of specialised industrial, commercial and domestic installations.
Ideal for those starting out or wishing to progress their career in heating and ventilation, perhaps choosing to specialise in installing and maintaining domestic or commercial heating and ventilation systems.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

These qualifications cover all the general and specific skills you need including:

  • Installing domestic or industrial and commercial heating and ventilating systems
  • Repairing heating and ventilating systems
  • Carrying out ductwork and welding
  • Liaising with technicians from supporting trades
  • Complying with relevant standards
  • Communication skills
  • Environmental protection measures.

You will learn in the classroom or in your workplace.

Assessment is through multiple choice tests, practical assignments, and portfolio of evidence.

Which Level is right for me?

Level 2
You're just beginning your career in the heating and ventilating sector and want to learn about maintaining system components and how to install domestic, commercial and industrial heating and ventilation systems. You work under supervision. You may also be undertaking an apprenticeship

Level 3
You have considerable experience working in the heating and ventilating sector, or have completed the Level 2 NVQ Diploma. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring work meets the required standard. You may also be undertaking an apprenticeship.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

Successful completion of the qualification could help you progress into a range of roles including heating and ventilating engineer or progression from heating and ventilating engineer to management level.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

In order to deliver these cleaning qualifications, you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment. - you can train internal members of staff or recruit specially. You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified assessors - you can train internal members of staff or recruit specially.

There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking this qualification.

Level 2

This level will suit you if you're just beginning your career in the heating and ventilating sector and want to learn about maintaining system components and how to install domestic, commercial and industrial heating and ventilation systems.

There are three qualifications available at Level 2:

  • Diploma in Heating and Ventilating Industrial and Commercial Installation (6188-20)
  • Diploma in Heating and Ventilating Ductwork Installation (6188-21)
  • Diploma in Planned and Reactive Maintenance on Heating and Ventilating Equipment (6188-22).

These comprise mandatory and optional units, depending on the qualification you choose. Sample units include:

  • Understand and carry out safe working practices in building services engineering
  • Understand industrial and commercial hot and cold water system maintenance techniques
  • Understand how to apply environmental protection measures within building services engineering
  • Understand industrial and commercial circular and flat ductwork installation techniques
  • Understand industrial and commercial air handling unit installation techniques.

  • Diploma in Heating and Ventilating - Ductwork Installation (6188-31)
  • Diploma in Planned and Reactive Maintenance on Heating and Ventilating Systems (6188-32)

  • Understand how to organise resources within building service engineering
  • Understand and apply industrial and commercial rectangular ductwork installation and pre-commissioning techniques
  • Understand industrial and commercial fire protection system installation techniques

  • Install heating and ventilation industrial and commercial systems
  • Maintain and diagnose faults on heating and ventilation industrial and commercial systems.
