General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You can choose optional units to suit your chosen career path in mechanical manufacturing engineering. Subjects covered include:

  • Welding
  • Using Computer Aided Manufacturing Processes
  • Plant maintenance
  • Electronic circuits
  • Power supply.

You will learn in the classroom and in a work-based environment. Your assessments will be a mixture of practical assignments and written and on-line testing.

Which level is right for me?

Level 1
This level is ideal for school leavers considering a career in engineering and will provide a basic understanding of engineering principles.

Level 2
Choose this level if you're a school leaver with some engineering knowledge and experience, or you require some engineering skills in your role. You will develop your understanding and practical experience of specific engineering technologies. It can also be used as part of an Engineering Apprenticeship.

Level 3
This provides more experienced learners with an understanding and practical experience of specialist engineering technologies and principles. It can also be used as part of an Advanced Engineering Apprenticeship.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified assessors - you can train internal members of staff or recruit specially.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Centres currently offering the Level 1, 2 and/or Level 3 Certificate in Engineering (2800) can gain automatic approval. For all other centres, please download and complete the qualification approval form and send it to your local City & Guilds office.

Centres currently offering the Level 1, 2 and/or Level 3 IVQs in Engineering (1155 and 2565) and/or Electrical and Electronic Engineering (8030) should download and complete the qualification approval form and send it to your local City & Guilds office.

This level is ideal for experienced learners with an understanding and practical experience of specialist engineering technologies and principles. 

There are seven qualifications available at Level 3 all of which are included in the Advanced Engineering Manufacture Apprenticeship framework. 

There are also six qualifications available at Diploma size for international learners.
