City & Guilds is the skills organisation of choice for much of the infrastructure and built environment sector. Our work with this sector is setting a new industry-wide standard for an electric vehicle charger installation and maintenance qualification. These new market-leading qualifications will be available to practising electricians from spring 2022, and largescale electrical installers from autumn 2022. The qualifications will allow installers to keep pace with rapidly changing technological developments in this fast-growing sector. We work with employers across the EV charging supply chain, and sector stakeholders to help set market-leading standards for skills. This new skills benchmark for electric vehicle charging installation has therefore been developed hand-in-hand with industry to provide a much-needed injection of up-to-date skills, and knowledge to help bridge skills gaps more effectively. The qualifications provide practising electricians the opportunity to gain the knowledge, skills and understanding in one of the following specialist areas:
We have been working with employers, key industry stakeholders, as well as colleges and training providers across the UK. The Level 3 competency qualifications we are developing will be recognised by the industry. The work we have been doing is already feeding in to enhance the development of the new domestic electrician apprenticeship standard in England.
In our efforts to consistently expand and deepen our understanding of the UK’s various sectors and their skills requirements, we hosted an enlightening round table with experts in EV (electric vehicles).
