With a qualification in Housing, you can progress your housing career by learning how to work with colleagues and customers in a way that promotes safe, ethical and sustainable working practices.

You'll gain the skills to provide an enhanced service to customers by applying organisational policies and procedures - and once you've completed , there are opportunities to progress to higher level qualifications.

A Certificate or Diploma in Housing is designed for people already working in the housing industry. You should have experience in the industry and may even be working in a supervisory capacity.

This qualification is ideal if you want to progress your career further, perhaps into a managerial role, or if you want to expand your skill set.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

For the Level 2 qualification you will cover the following areas:

  • develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders in a housing context
  • maintain professional behaviour and working relationships in a housing context
  • maintain the health, safety and security of self and others.

For Level 3, you'll cover key themes including:

  • promoting safe, ethical and sustainable housing
  • developing positive relationships with customers
  • managing properties and leasing arrangements
  • encouraging positive community values.

Which Level is right for me?

Level 2
You are working in the industry as a housing officer. You are looking to gain further experience in skills such as working with others and promote equality and diversity.

Level 3
You've worked in the housing industry for some time - you have plenty of experience and your work might involve supervising others or managing resources. You want to develop your skills further, perhaps to move into a management role.

What Careers Can This Lead To?
These qualifications are ideal for those working in the housing industry who either want to benchmark or diversify their skills or for those who want to demonstrate that they are working to higher management level .
Once you've completed the Level 2 Certificate in Housing, you can progress to the Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Housing.
What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

Qualifications in Housing are designed for people who are working in the housing industry - whether they have just a little bit of experience or many years' worth.

Learners completing either the Level 2 Certificate in Housing or Level 3 Certificate or Diploma in Housing are assessed on a portfolio of evidence, which they'll add to as they complete the qualification.

Level 2

Level 2 will suit you if you are working as a housing officer and are looking to gain further experience and skills.

To achieve the Level 2 qualification, you'll need to complete the following mandatory units:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders in a housing context
  • Maintain professional behaviour and working relationships in a housing context
  • Maintain the health, safety and security of self and others.

Optional units include:

  • Process documentation relating to housing activities
  • Undertake promotional activity within the housing sector
  • Advertise and market properties.

This qualification is ideal if you're working in the housing industry, perhaps already supervising others, but want to increase and diversify your skills.

With a Certificate in Housing, you can progress to the Level 3 Diploma in Housing.

Level 3 is ideal if you've worked in the housing industry for some time - you have plenty of experience and your work might involve supervising others or managing resources. You want to develop your skills further, perhaps to move into a management role.

At Level 3 you can choose to do a shorter certificate or a longer diploma. Both require that you complete three core units:

  • Promote safe, ethical and sustainable practice in housing
  • Plan own professional development within housing
  • Develop positive relationships with customers and colleagues in providing a housing service.

You also complete a range of optional units, depending which length of qualification you've chosen. Examples of units are:

    Certificate in Housing

  • Organise the maintenance and repair of property
  • Provide housing advice and guidance to customers
  • Enable housing customers to establish and maintain contacts and interests in isolating situations.

    Diploma in Housing

  • Set up and manage tenancy, licence and leaseholder agreements
  • Respond to possible breaches of agreements in the housing sector
  • Work with customers and groups to develop the community
  • Provide support to customers to reduce the risk of homelessness.
