How will apprentices demonstrate occupational competence?
City & Guilds' assessment approach is designed to draw evidence from real workplace practice, enabling apprentices to demonstrate the full breadth of the standard's knowledge, skills and behaviours through meaningful occupational activity.
Assessment focuses on the practical application of welding skills, technical understanding and professional behaviours required for successful performance in a safety-critical occupation. Apprentices demonstrate their ability to produce quality welds, work safely, follow specifications and apply engineering principles in real-world contexts.
The assessment approach provides opportunities for apprentices to evidence:
- Practical welding competence
- Technical knowledge and understanding
- Quality and inspection awareness
- Safe working practices
- Problem-solving and decision-making
- Professional behaviours expected within engineering environments
Competence will be assessed through a Practical demonstration and an interview; this ensures that the complete range of knowledge and skills required by the apprenticeship standard can be evidenced.
Apprentices will achieve one of the following grades:
Successful apprentices will be eligible for the apprenticeship certificate issued through the relevant apprenticeship certification process
