The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hairdressing (450) is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the hairdressing industry.  Learners could progress into employment, onto an Apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking other qualifications at Level 3.

The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Barbering (360) is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the barbering industry.  Learners could progress into employment, onto an Apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking other qualifications at Level 3.

The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Cutting and styling (360) is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the hairdressing industry.  Learners could progress into employment, onto an Apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking other qualifications at Level 3.

The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hair Colouring Services (360) is aimed at learners that are looking to start a career in the hairdressing industry.  Learners could progress into employment, onto an Apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking other qualifications at Level 3.

The Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Hairdressing (540)  aims to provide you with a range of specialist technical practical skills and knowledge which will equip you to seek employment or further training within the hairdressing industry.
 
This Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Barbering (450)  aims to provide you with a range of specialist technical practical skills and knowledge which will equip you to seek employment or further training within the barbering industry.

General Information

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?
To deliver these qualifications, centres/colleges will need to provide their learners with a suitable learning environment and the resources they need to complete the practical and theoretical aspects of the qualification.

Centres and providers work with local employers who will contribute to the knowledge and delivery of training. Employers will provide demonstrations and talks on the industry and where possible work placements will also be provided by the employers. This practically based training is ideal preparation for gaining employment in the hairdressing industry or specialist further study.

Level 2

Learners interested in the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hairdressing will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.
 
Compulsory topics include:

• Principles of practice of hairdressing
• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
• Style, set and dress hair 
• Cut hair using basic techniques
• Colour and lighten hair

Learners interested in the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Barbering will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.
 
Compulsory topics include:

• Principles of practice of hairdressing
• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
• Cut men’s hair using basic techniques
• Cut facial hair to shape using basic techniques
• Dry and finish men’s hair
• Create basic outlines and detailing in hair

Learners interested in the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Hair Colouring Services will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.
 
Compulsory topics include:

• Principles of practice of hairdressing
• Colour and lighten hair
• Styling and finishing services

Learners will also be able to choose additional optional topics, including:

• Perm and neutralise hair
• Relax hair

Learners interested in the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Cutting and Styling  will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.
 
Compulsory topics include:

• Principles of practice of hairdressing
• Shampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalp
• Style, set and finish hair
• Cut hair using basic techniques
• Plait and twist hair

Achievement of the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Hairdressing (540) demonstrates to an employer that the individual has the skills and knowledge of health & safety, customer service and also has the necessary advanced cutting, styling, colouring and colour correction skills necessary to be employed as a Senior Stylist.

This qualification could lead to a job as a hairdresser working in one of the following establishments:
