The level 2 Award in Communication Cabling helps learners to develop the knowledge and skills required to become effective in the installation of communication cables and connecting to relevant systems. 

For those who wish to progress further, the Level 3 Certificate in Communications Cabling builds on the competence of installation and facilitates moving into supervisory roles.

This qualification has been developed in collaboration with the Training and Qualifications Committee for the Fibreoptics Industry Association which is led by CTTS (chair), Lucid Optical Service and Total Comms Training.  Further collaboration involved BT Openreach, Cityfibre, Hyperoptic, PQMS, TBN  Virginmedia and White Associates.

The 3668 Communications cabling qualifications provide eligibility for the relevant electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS) Network Infrastructure cards (which have replaced the previous ECS Datacomms cards).

This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 and above who would like to gain the knowledge and skills required during their initial training within the network infrastructure (communications cabling) industry for specific job roles. It is also for those who work within the telecoms industry and wish to further develop their knowledge and skills.

Level 2

The Level 2 Award in Communications Cabling will suit you if you're new to communication cabling, or have some basic experience. You want to gain the knowledge to succeed in a job or move on to further study.

Learners will be introduced to the scope and opportunities offered within the network infrastructure (communications cabling) and telecoms industry.

This qualification will cover communications cabling processes and principles. Learners will develop skills such as how to install fibre optic, copper and/or air blown fibre cables and micro-ducts.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

Upon successful completion of this qualification, learners will be equipped with the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for progression towards the Level 3 Certificate in Communications Cabling, with the goal of becoming a qualified technician. 

Completing the Level 2 Award in Communication Cabling gives you a good grounding for supportive roles to assist other qualified staff with the installation of cables and other work under supervision .

Level 3

The Level 3 Certificate in Communications Cabling is ideal if you've experience in working with communication networks. Your work might involve supervising others or managing resources. 

Skills and knowledge covered include installation of structured cabling and/or work on single-mode and multi-mode fibre cables, containment and associated connection units, installation of earthing and bonding cables, and the fitting out of enclosures with structured cable termination equipment.
