Awards in Teaching, Training and Assessing Learning are designed for training support staff and trainers in post-16 education and training.

The Advanced and Specialist Advanced Diplomas are designed for qualified teachers, first level managers or those preparing for higher education. You'll need a current teaching job or work placement for the practical aspects of the qualification.
Awards in Teaching, Training and Assessing Learning are aimed at:
 
• candidates who already have an introductory teaching and supporting learning qualifications and would like to progress further
• teachers or those training and assessing learning who want to improve their knowledge and skills
• experienced teaching staff who require continuing professional development in teaching, training and assessing learners
• candidates who require a qualification to improve their knowledge and skills to prepare for a higher level of teaching, training and assessing learners
• centres who wish to run a teaching, training and assessing learning qualifications for their current staff to support existing courses

It is also an opportunity to achieve standalone units which are relevant to their current role (eg internal verification, Assessing Competence, Coaching and Mentoring, E-Learning, Management of training)

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?
While completing this qualification, you'll cover things like:
• identifying learners' needs
• planning and preparing sessions
• providing feedback
• delivering learning
• evaluating sessions and outcomes.

Which level is right for me?

Level 1
This is an introductory two-day course that will suit you if you are delivering training or you are employed in post-16 education and training.

Level 2
You have some knowledge and basic skills in the education and training industry - you might work as training support staff. You're interested in developing your skills and progressing your career.

Level 3
You might be a qualified teacher, assessor or trainer looking for continuing professional development, or have an introductory qualification and want to progress further.
What Careers Can This Lead To?
A Level 2 qualification could lead to a job as a teaching assistant or a learning support assistant.

A Level 3 qualification could lead to a job as a training instructor or a training manager. You may also wish to use it to progress into higher education. With the Advanced Diploma in Teaching, Training and Assessing Learning, you can progress to higher qualifications including the Specialist Advanced Diploma. You could then move on to related Level 4 qualifications.
What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?
To deliver an international qualification, you'll need to provide your learners with a suitable learning environment and the resources they need to complete the practical and theoretical aspects of the qualification.

You will also need qualified internal assessors.

For the Diploma in Teaching, Training and Assessing Learning, learners will need to complete a multiple choice exam and a practical demonstration or assignment.

For the Advanced Diploma and Specialist Advanced Diploma, learners will need to complete a multiple choice exam and a practical demonstration or assignment.

Level 3 is ideal if you are a qualified teacher, assessor or trainer looking for continuing professional development, or you have an introductory qualification and want to progress further.

Routes at this level include:

•Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Teaching, Training and Assessing Learning
•Level 3 Specialist Advanced Diploma in Teaching, Training and Assessing Learning.

For either of these routes, you complete five core units:

•Identifying learners' needs
•Plan and prepare learning
•Deliver learning
•Assess learning outcomes
•Evaluation of sessions and learning programmes.

The longer Specialist Advanced Diploma requires two optional units in addition. These include:

•Coaching and mentoring in teaching, training and assessment
•E-learning in teaching, training and assessment
•Management of training programmes.

There is also an IVQ Certificate in Teaching, Training and Assessing Learning/e-learning available at Level 3.

Specialist optional units can also be taken as stand-alone qualifications. On completion you are awarded a full certificate. For more information, refer to the course handbook.
