Introduction to Trainer Skills (7300)

The City & Guilds Introduction to Trainer Skills is designed to provide the participants with a sound introduction to the concepts of a systematic approach to training. It is comprehensive  in content at this level, building the skills, knowledge and abilities of a participant that is required to be an effective trainer.

On completion of the Introduction to Trainer Skills, learners will equip themselves and their employer with a member of staff who is able to plan, deliver and evaluate effective training, no matter what the content of the subject they are delivering.

The course is based on the training cycle, covering three main areas:

  1. planning (including session planning)
  2. delivery (participants will deliver a 10 minute 'session' that they have planned)
  3. evaluation (self, peer group and course evaluation).
Anyone, in any role, who trains other employees in their organisation or candidates looking for a training qualification as an alternative to the 6502 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS).

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?
This course is comprehensive in content at this level, building the skills, knowledge and abilities of a participant that is required to be an effective trainer.

You will be introduced to a range of essential tips, techniques, knowledge and skills covering:

  • Planning, delivering and evaluating sessions
  • Setting ground rules
  • Use of icebreakers
  • The learning environment
  • Training resources
  • Gaining and maintaining attention
  • Motivation
  • Assessment.

You will learn in the classroom.

The knowledge and practical skills gained on the course will be assessed by a multiple choice quiz and an observation (by the course tutor) of the participants' delivered session, on which they will receive formal feedback.

This qualification is not part of a framework.

This is an introductory qualification and is ideal for those with no previous formal training in the models and techniques for training and developing colleagues in the workplace.

These qualifications will help you in your day-to-day role but could also provide an first step towards training and development roles such as:

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

The course is based on the training cycle, covering the following areas: Planning (including session planning), Delivery (participants will deliver a 10 minute 'session' that they have planned), Evaluation (self, peer group and course evaluation) and Programme delivery and assessment.

This qualification is intended to be delivered as an intensive two day course by a tutor via the provided materials. The knowledge and practical skills gained on the course will be assessed by a multiple choice quiz and an observation of a session designed and delivered by the course participants, on which they will receive formal feedback.
