This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 and above who would like to gain the initial skills required to become an aircraft maintenance mechanic.

This qualification allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the maintenance and ground handling of military and civil aircraft in the Aerospace and Aviation sector.

1790-02 Aviation Maintenance Mechanic (Competence) is aimed at learners aged 16 and above.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

Learners will develop skills needed to carry out different activities related to aircraft maintenance.

Learners will develop transferable skills valued by employers such as working efficiently and effectively and contribute to improving business performance. Critically they will learn to carry out tasks to meet regulatory and legal requirements.

To achieve the Level 2 Aviation Maintenance Mechanic (Competence) learners must achieve all four mandatory units 201- 204 and any three optional units from units 205 – 208.

Mandatory content includes:

201 Complying with statutory regulations and organisational safety requirements
202 Working efficiently and effectively in an engineering environment
203 Using and interpreting engineering data and documentation
204 Reinstating the work area on completion of activities

Learners must also choose 3 optional units from:

205 Carrying out aircraft handling operations
206 Carrying out aircraft routine servicing
207 Carrying out maintenance on aircraft mechanical systems by component replacement
208 Carrying out maintenance on aircraft electrical /electronic systems by component replacement

What Careers Can This Lead To?

On successful completion of the standard, learners are able to progress to the Higher Technician Family of Apprenticeships, such as the Engineering Technician.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver the qualification centres/colleges will need to provide their learners with a suitable learning environment in order to complete the practical aspects of the qualification.

Level 2

This Level 2 qualification will suit you if you want to learn the basics of Aeronautical Engineering principles and practice to help start off your career.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

On successful completion of the standard, learners are able to progress to the Higher Technician Family of Apprenticeships, such as the Engineering Technician.
