Katherine is a specialist in maths and English with over 25 years of experience in education, spanning Further Education and prison education. Her background includes Functional Skills, ESOL, Employability, Foundation Studies and the beauty sector. She has also worked as an examiner for Functional Skills maths, giving her valuable insight into assessment expectations and learner performance.
Before joining City & Guilds, Katherine held a senior leadership role as Deputy Education Manager within the OLASS provision, where she led on quality improvement across the department. This role strengthened her managerial expertise and deepened her understanding of the challenges and opportunities in delivering high‑quality maths, English provision.
Katherine began her career in the beauty industry before moving into teaching, where she discovered a passion for supporting individuals to develop skills for work and life. As she taught, she became increasingly aware of the literacy and numeracy barriers many learners face. This inspired her to specialise in maths and English, navigate multiple sector reforms, and work closely with staff and learners to raise standards and improve outcomes.
In her role as Technical Advisor for English, Maths, ESOL and Employability at City & Guilds, Katherine provides expert guidance, support to customers. She delivers CPD for managers and teaching teams, helping organisations strengthen their provision and enabling learners to progress confidently in their education and careers.
