Strengthening your security with multi-factor authentication (MFA)

Logging in with MFA

At City & Guilds, your security is our priority. To help protect your data and accounts, we're introducing multi-factor authentication (MFA) across our platforms. MFA adds an extra layer of protection by requiring two or more forms of verification to access your account.

During the implementation phase for platforms that have not yet had MFA deployed you will continue to use your existing log in information.

Easy to follow guides

To support a smooth transition, we’ve prepared some step-by-step guides:

How to set up an account on a City & Guilds or ILM platform

When first using a City & Guilds or ILM platform that has MFA deployed you will need to set up an account.

How to login using MFA

When your login session has expired you can log back in using your MFA account information.

Frequently asked questions

How will MFA affect my login experience

Once MFA is deployed to a platform, when you log in for the first time, you’ll be prompted to set up an account and verify your identity via email. Once MFA is deployed on all City & Guilds platforms you will have one set of login credentials to give you a more consistent experience. MFA adds a quick additional step to your login process, and it significantly enhances the security of your account.

I am an Associate of City & Guilds, what do I need to do

As an Associate of City & Guilds you may find you have an additional step to set up a multi-factor authentication (MFA) account. We have provided MFA log in guidance for Associates in the Associate Resource Hub in the 'General Resources' section.

When will MFA go live on the platforms I use

MFA will be rolled out in phases across some of our platforms over several months. In advance of each platform having MFA implemented we will notify platform users. You will have the opportunity to attend a webinar and ask questions. Please look out for a notice on our website or an email from us.

Will I need a workphone or authenticator app

No. The verification code will be sent via email. The code will be sent to the email address you specify as your account login email address.

What does my password need to include

Your password needs to include a minimum of 8 characters and 3 out of 4 of lowercase or uppercase characters, numbers or symbols.

How we use the data we collect

At City & Guilds and ILM, we’re committed to protecting customer data. Our customer privacy notice explains what we collect, how we use it, when we may share it, and how we keep it secure.

Implementation timeline

We will be rolling out MFA with the plan to finish implementation in 2026. This phased approach may also update platforms that already have a different version of MFA in place. On implementation of MFA, the platform landing pages will look different.
