The 3087-02 Level 2 Diploma in Children's Care Learning and Development (Northern Ireland) allows learners to learn about child development and to develop and refine some of the practical and technical skills required for employment and/or career progression in the Early Years and Childcare Sector. This qualification has been designed specifically to meet the needs of learners and employers in Northern Ireland and sector stakeholders have been closely involved in developing the content of the qualification.
This qualification is aimed at learners aged 16 – 18; 19+.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

The qualifications consists of 8 units, all of which are mandatory. The units titles are:

  • Context, principles and values that underpin practice
  • Communication and partnership working
  • Safeguarding children
  • Keeping children safe healthy and well
  • Support children’s personal care and nutrition
  • Supporting children’s development
  • Supporting children’s play, learning and development
  • Contribute to the support of children with disabilities and/or special needs
What Careers Can This Lead To?

This qualification meets the needs of learners who work or want to work with babies and young children in a wide range of early years setting including full day care, sessional childcare, and, childminding and out of school clubs for example in the roles of:

  • Early Years Assistant
  • Childminder
  • Nursery Nurse
  • Sure Start Assistant
  • Family Support Worker
  • Playgroup Assistant
What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver this qualification, centres/colleges will need to provide their learners with a suitable learning environment and access to a real work setting which provide the resources and opportunities they need to complete the practical and theoretical aspects of the qualification
