We are now approved as an EPAO for the main trade standards in Construction including Carpentry and Joinery (and Advanced), Bricklayer, Plasterer and Painter.

This apprenticeship is designed by key employers in the Construction industry. Groundworkers are the first trade onto a construction and civil engineering site and they work closely with supervisors and engineers in interpreting design specifications to prepare the site ready for the structural building works to take place. They continue their work throughout the construction phase, working with all on-site construction trades, such as bricklayers and plant operatives, up to and including the final completion activities of the project. A Groundworker skills and knowledge includes setting out and preparing the sub-surfaces ready for the structural work to begin, installing drainage systems, concreting, constructing roads and pathways and carrying out the finished hard landscaping. Groundworkers are able to transfer between heavy construction and civil engineering sites as well as house building, commercial building and general building sites. Groundworkers work for all types of construction companies from small subcontractors to large main contractors.

On-programme

On-programme is the learning phase for apprentices to pick up the skills, knowledge and behaviours set out in the standard. Apprentices need to complete 20% off-the-job training during the on-programme phase of their apprenticeship which must take place in the apprentice’s contracted hours. The apprentice must also complete a portfolio of evidence during their on-programme learning. The portfolio is not graded but will form the basis for the questioning during the professional discussion. The apprentice must collect supporting evidence throughout their final year to build up their portfolio. It is recommended that employers and training providers work closely to support the apprentice to gather evidence to include within their portfolio, such as a journal recording their experiences, formative written and practical tests, as well as employer appraisals

End-point assessment

The end-point assessment will demonstrate that the apprentice can perform in a fully competent and productive way. The end-point assessment will contain three assessment methods – all components must be passed for the apprentice to meet the apprenticeship standard. The three components consist of;

Multiple choice test – This will be a 90-min test containing 50 multiple-choice questions.
Skills Test – Consist of 3 tasks

Upon registration for EPA, you will have access to a range of support material for Groundworker to help prepare for EPA. All the materials can be accessed through EPA PRO on one user-friendly platform.

Recording forms: supporting you to complete key stages of EPA readiness, we have prepared forms to give you peace of mind and confidence that everything is covered. These packs include a gateway declaration form that is needed during the booking process and assessment forms, if required, that apprentices might need during assessment.
LIEPA reports: Our lead independent end assessors (LIEPAs) produce an annual report with insight into the EPA results and findings across all centres. These reports can help you refine your apprenticeship delivery to improve success rates.

Digital credentials provide an exciting new way to motivate and reward apprentices’ on-going progression. They allow achievements to be verifiable, shareable and trackable all in one click. Please add your learners’ email address during registration. A digital credential cannot be issued without the learner’s email address.
